On the approval on Third Reading of House Bill 7325 or the Magna Carta of Seafarers by the House of Representatives
Our Filipino seafarers are indeed seen and heard by this government. The MARINO Partylist is in awe for this achievement because finally, the basic rights that should have been afforded to our seafarers years ago is now a step closer to becoming part of the laws of the Philippines.
MARINO has constantly fought for the welfare of our seafarers. In fact, our proposed bill also reached third reading during the 18th Congress and we remained steadfast in representing our seafarers. MARINO never lost sight of our goal to legislate a measure that gives emphasis to the value of our seafarers.
The Magna Carta of Seafarers is a stepping stone towards fully implementing policies against discrimination, lack of proper work environment, deficient maritime education system, weak promotion of seafarers’ basic rights and other relevant issues that must be addressed in the seafaring industry.
We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to our colleagues who have expressly supported and voted for this cause. We are hopeful and positive that the National Government will appreciate the necessity of this law given the huge economic and trade contributions of our seafarers in the country and worldwide.
