About one month after the signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Marino Partylist and Cocogen Insurance, the partylist released the first batch of 10,000 insurance cards for Filipino seafarers and members of the Kayod Marino Volunteer Movement (KMVM).
“During the pandemic, many seafarers lost their jobs and were repatriated back to the Philippines. With claim benefits for up to P75,000, the personal insurance acts as an added protection for our constituents during these unpredictable times,” said MARINO Partylist First Rep. Sandro Gonzalez.
Unlike the previous years, the releasing of insurance cards this year was also held online to accommodate seafarers and volunteers who are residing in different parts of the country.
“We wanted to accommodate Filipino mariners who cannot visit our physical office at Marino Action Center,” added MARINO Partylist Second Rep. Macnell Lusotan. “Especially now that there is a lockdown, we have to adjust to better serve Filipinos despite limitations and restrictions.”
The first batch of 10,000 insurance cards were released on August 2, and online on August 9, during the Enhanced Community Quarantine due to the Delta and Lambda variants. In previous years, the release of insurance cards were held in person, where seafarers had to sign application forms physically.
“On the one hand, we have these two COVID-19 variants keeping us indoors. On the other hand, we continue to pursue communicating with our constituents online and building a thriving community there,” said Rep. Sandro Gonzalez. “Lockdowns do not hamper us to serve the maritime community.”
“With the personal insurance, our Filipino seafarers can lay down their worries about mishaps that may happen while off-board and on-land,” continued Rep. Sandro Gonzalez. “The most we can do now is protect our seafarers and continue pursuing their vaccination and deployment, so they can support their families.”
